Hangin' tough: A new poster for movie Gangster
Squad depicts a suave looking Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and
Sean Penn
Gosling plays LAPD officer Jerry Wooters in the film which tells the story of the Los Angeles Police Department's fight with the east coast Mafia to keep them out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 1950s.
Brolin plays the leader of the Gangster Squad, a vigilante police force that fights the gangsters on their own terms to secure the future of Los Angeles.
The beautiful and the damned: Gosing plays a cop in the movie, while Stone stars as a gangster's moll
The film's director Ruben Fleischer has promised a 'transformation' from Stone in the film.
'There’s a reason why I was very, very eager to work with her again,' he told last year. 'She’s simply the best. Everyone as soon as they met her was taken by how cool and smart and funny and talented she is.
Look familiar? Stone and Gosling get it on again in Gangster Squad, a year after their bedroom scene in Crazy Stupid Love
Round two: It's another era but the attraction between Stone and Gosling's new characters is still strong
'I think she really
transforms in this movie from being that sort of teenager or college kid
that we’ve seen in movies into a real woman.'
Fleischer also hinted at what fans can expect from Oscar-winning Penn's take on notorious gangster Mickey Cohen.
'I think Sean wanted to really make him his own,' he said. 'So he took pieces of the real Mickey that he connected with and then also filled in his own ideas of who the guy is. It’s not like an impression of Mickey Cohen but more a realisation of him.'
