Online dating site eHarmony found that 73per cent of women and 71per cent of men branded the traditional idea 'ridiculous'.
The research, conducted in honour of the London Olympics, saw 20,12 of its U.S. users polled about dating etiquette.

Instead, an overwhelming 89per cent of men and 77per cent of women would go on a same-day date if they were available.
The hard-to-get gameplan is not completely outmoded though. In fact, it is not just women who are at it: 41per cent of men admit to playing it cool.
Over half of both sexes admitted to searching a potential date's name on Google or Facebook before meeting them.
And contrary to popular belief, 44per cent of women admitted to liking the cheesy pick-up line approach.
Texting though, the mainstay of the reluctant Romeo, appears to be on the way out.
Over 75per cent of respondents said that they would prefer a phone call instead of a text.
